Some Wonderful Facts ...
FACT: The Creston Valley is home to 17,000 acres of internationally recognized wetlands that are home to hundreds of species of animals and plants.
FACT: The Creston Valley Wildlife Interpretive Centre has served to educate and inspire tens of thousands of adults and children about the wetlands and its place in the Kootenay-Columbia eco-system, since 1974.
FACT: The Creston Valley Wildlife Interpretive Centre is slated to close in October, 2017.
FACT: In 2014 a committee of business and government was formed to investigate the need for and potentional development of a new Interpretive Centre.
FACT: In 2015 the Kootenay-Columbia Discovery Center Society ("KCDC") was organized to find a site for a new Interpretive Centre.
FACT: KCDC subsequently prepared a Business Plan for the purpose of developing a world-class, educational, research and ecotourism Discovery Center.
FACT: on October 7, 2017 the Interpretive Centre closed, ending a long tradition of providing environmental education and awareness programs to students and adults
FACT: KCDC stepped up with a proposal to keep the educational programs going, without interruption until a new Discovery Centre can be developed.
FACT: With financial support from the Columbia Basin Trust and others, the continuation of programming for at least the 2018 season is almost assured
FACT: KCDC has, simultaneously, been working with architects on a viable site for the Discovery Centre and its design
FACT: KCDC has a need for Members and Donors and will soon have a need for Volunteers.
FACT: KCDC has vacancies on the Board, from time to time, who serve until elections take place at the Annual General Meeting. Qualifications include sharing our Vision and helping us achieve our Mission. Send us an email if you are interested!
